UroLift® - enlarged prostate surgery in Enfield

The Kings Oak and Cavell hospitals now offer UroLift®, a minimally invasive surgery for treating patients who suffer from benign prostatic hyperplasia/enlargement (BPH).

The Kings Oak and Cavell hospitals now offer Urolift, a minimally invasive surgery for treating patients who suffer from benign prostatic hyperplasia/enlargement (BPH).

BPH symptoms can include slow stream, difficulty emptying your bladder and increase frequency of urination.

Urolift is a straightforward procedure usually performed under short general anaesthesia as a day case surgery. There will be no tissue removal during the procedure. Urolift treatment consists of transurethral delivery of small implants to lift, hold and secure the prostate lobes in an open position to relieve the obstruction of the urethral lumen. The procedure takes no more than 10 minutes and there is no post-operative catheter.

As well as relieving the obstructive symptoms, Urolift may also help to preserve the sexual function. Patients can usually return to normal activity within the first week following treatment.

This service is offered by Consultant Urologists, Mr Paul Erotocritou and Mr Maneesh Ghei.

Symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia include:

  • Weak urine stream
  • Post voiding dribbling
  • Difficulty emptying the bladder
  • Hesitancy/difficulty to initiate urination
  • Increase frequency of urination

Many symptoms of Urolift can be picked up in routine screening, therefore it’s important to get a health assessment if you are experiencing any of these symptoms.
