The imaging department at Cavell Hospital offers the following services:
Mammography
The mammography unit is staffed by fully accredited radiographers and offers general mammography as well as more specialised views. The machine is outfitted for digital stereotactic localisation to aid biopsy and fine needle aspiration of soft tissue lesions. Our consultant radiologists performing these techniques are specialists in this field.

MRI scanning
An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan is a type of medical imaging that uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed pictures of the inside of your body. Unlike X‑rays or CT scans, MRI does not use ionising radiation. This makes it particularly useful for examining soft tissues.
Ultrasound
An ultrasound scan is a diagnostic imaging test that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of structures inside your body.
Unlike X-rays and CT scans, ultrasound does not use radiation, making it suitable for many different types of examinations. It allows clinicians to assess organs, muscles, tendons, blood vessels, and other soft tissues while they are functioning.
Ultrasound is widely used to investigate symptoms, monitor certain medical conditions, and guide some medical procedures.
Dental X-ray
Dental X-rays allow dentists and other doctors to view the internal structures of your jaw and mouth – your teeth and their roots as well as bones in your jaw. They can be used to find cavities, impacted teeth, infections, areas of bone loss or weakness, and other problems that can’t be seen from a standard physical exam.
General radiology
General radiology is a type of medical imaging that diagnoses and monitors injuries inside the body. X-ray is one of the primary scans used, though radiologists also use CT scans, MRI, ultrasound and other imaging technologies.
