Whilst technology and expertise are important, our multi-disciplined support team is key in helping patients through every aspect of their care. The team is able to reassure patients every step of the way at what can be, for obvious reasons, a very challenging time.
Most people being investigated for cancer will undergo investigations such as CT scans, MRI scans, ultrasound, bone scans, bone marrow tests, bronchoscopy, gastrointestinal endoscopy, colonoscopy, mammography, cystoscopy and biopsies.
The tests performed will depend on the type of cancer being investigated. These tests may also be repeated throughout your treatment and at later check-ups.
Our nursing team work within a dedicated suite, made up of trained nursing experts who are committed to ensuring the best possible medical care for our patients. Our specialist nurses have extensive experience of what it takes to provide care to each individual patient and their specific illness.
The oncology unit treats patients for a wide range of cancers including bladder cancer, blood cancer, lung cancer and more. For the full list of cancer treatment please see this cancer treatment page.
The hospital offers a palliative care service made up of a Consultant in Palliative Medicine and working closely with the Macmillan Oncology Specialist Sister and nursing team.
The team is always on hand to provide advice on every aspect of care for patients and their families from the time of diagnosis onwards. They can speak to nurses and GPs on behalf of our patients and liaise with teams within the hospital and in the community such as dieticians and physiotherapists.
All aspects of care, all in one place – all hours of the day. Expert nursing staff is available on a 24-hour basis to take calls from patients, GPs and consultants. Advice and emergency treatment is available by contacting the hospital and asking for the senior nurse on duty.
Expert dietetic advice is available at any time.
We ensure all our patients are fully counselled about their treatment. A wide range of printed information is also available, together with advice on websites and local and national self-help and support groups.

Assisting with discharge from hospital and planning for the future
Our team work with the consultant oncologists to plan a patient's discharge from hospital. If the patient is unable to return home, we will assist in arranging appropriate care for the future.
Every aspect of care is provided on site and all members of the care team work towards the best possible patient outcome. We aim to make our patients as comfortable as possible and have a number of teams offering support and treatment:

If you are paying for yourself, we can usually offer an upfront cost which you can then choose to pay in full or access one of our easy payment options.
If you have insurance, we can arrange direct settlement with your insurance provider, although you should check in advance to see if your treatment is covered. For more information, visit our private medical insurance page.
