Our imaging department was refurbished in 2016 and following a £1.9m investment we now have on site MRI facilities. We also offer the following services, which are staffed by our team of vastly experienced radiologists and radiographers.

The Beaumont Hospital is located in Bolton in Greater Manchester. People visit us from across Lancashire and the North West, from local areas including Wigan, Bury, Chorley, Leigh, Worsley and Burnley. We also welcome patients from across the UK as well as abroad. When you go private, you can choose which hospital and which consultant are the best fit for you.

General x-rays

The department has a general x-ray unit which can perform a wide range of examinations. An x-ray image can show abnormalities that cannot be seen from outside the body, such as broken bones (fractures) or shadows on the lungs. Depending on what type you’re having, an X-ray should take 15-30 minutes.

The x-ray unit is open on Monday from 8am to 5pm and Tuesday to Friday 8am to 4:30pm.

Ultrasound

We also offer an ultrasound service Monday to Friday, with different clinics each day depending on the type of scan you’re having. An ultrasound scan uses high frequency wave sounds to create an image of an organ in the body. It cannot be used to look at bones or the lungs, or gastro-intestinal tract in detail.

MRI scanning

Our MRI unit is home to a Philips Ingenia 1.5T scanner. This imaging device is capable of scanning all parts of the body, producing high quality and 2D resolution images of your muscles, joints, bone marrow, blood vessels, nerves and other structures. Depending on what part of your body is being scanned, an MRI should take 20 minutes to one hour.

The MRI unit is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 7:30pm.

CT scanning

We have a mobile CT scanner at The Beaumont Hospital, which takes pictures of cross sections of organs and structures in the body, which when put together form a 3D picture of the body. Each scan or slice when put together forms a 3D picture of the body. A CT scan offers detailed views of different tissue types, including lungs, bones, soft tissues and blood vessels. Depending on what part of your body is being scanned, a CT should take between 30 minutes and one and half hours.

The CT scanner is on site every Thursday, from 8am to 4pm.

Diagnostics at The Beaumont Hospital in Bolton is available to all, whether you have private medical insurance or are looking to pay for treatment yourself.
