At The Beardwood Hospital, our team of Consultant Ophthalmologists offer a range of services to help diagnosis and treatment. The majority of ophthalmic cases are treated at our sister hospital, The Gisburne Park Hospital.

Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery is now one of the most common procedures in the UK. Cataracts can cause the lens in your eye to become cloudy and through surgery this can be completely replaced with a new, clear lens.

Lens Exchange Surgery

There are two main types of lens surgery; phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) surgery and refractive lens exchange (RLE). PIOL implantation is when an artificial lens is placed in your eye without removing your lens. Refractive lens exchange is when your lens is removed and replaced with a new, artificial one.

Glaucoma Surgery

The most common type of surgery for Glaucoma is a trabeculetomy. This procedure involves removing part of the eye-drainage tubes to allow for fluid to drain more clearly from the eye.

Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is performed at The Beardwood Hospital. The procedure removes excess skin or fat from the eyelid to improve hooded eyelids.
