Dupuytren's contracture happens when the tissue under the skin near your fingers becomes abnormally thick and less flexible. The condition can significantly impact your mobility, causing one or more of your fingers to point towards your palm, resulting in discomfort and stiffness in your hands. If you suffer with Dupuytren’s disease, you might be recommended a fascietomy, a needle fasciotomy, or a dermafasciectomy. These are three different procedures that can successfully treat Dupuytren’s disease.
Stenosing tenosynovitis, also known as trigger finger, can cause pain and stiffness when you try to move your finger or thumb. If left untreated, your affected finger or thumb could become trapped in a bent position, causing discomfort and reduced mobility. Trigger finger release surgery is a successful treatment option. It is rare for the problem to reappear after surgery.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is when your median nerve (a nerve in your hand that passes through your wrist) becomes compressed. This can cause pain, numbness or a tingling feeling in your fingers and hands. Carpal tunnel release surgery can help alleviate these symptoms by cutting your carpal ligament, which travels across the base of your palm, providing your median nerve and other nerves with space to move.
A ganglion is a fluid-filled cyst that presents as a smooth lump under your skin. The most common position for a ganglion is over the back of your wrist, but it can also form on the front of your wrist or the palm of your hand. Ganglions are harmless, but they can be painful and uncomfortable. Ganglion removal surgery is an effective way to remove the cyst.
