Southend Private Hospital offers treatment for knee osteoarthritis across Southend and further afield.
At your first appointment, you will be seen by consultant orthopaedic surgeon Mr. Chatenya Chauhan, a doctor specialising in conditions affecting the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons. Your first appointment is important as it’s where you’ll meet Mr. Chauhan, the doctor responsible for your care.
During your appointment, Mr. Chauhan will ask you about your symptoms, medical history, general health and any treatments you have tried previously. He will spend time getting to know you, discuss your expectations for treatment and encourage you to ask any questions you may have. At Circle Health Group, we want you to be as well-informed and comfortable as possible during your treatment, so please feel free to ask any questions or discuss any concerns with your consultant during your appointment.
Mr. Chauhan may ask to see the results of any previous tests or scans, or they may arrange them on the day. These may include blood tests, or imaging scans such as an X-ray, CT scan, or MRI.
If you are eligible and proceed with treatment, you will be given a prescription for an anti-biotic and sent a digital consent form providing you with the relevant information you require for treatment.
Prior to your treatment you will complete a telephone pre-assessment with one of our nursing team. This is a 15-20 minute conversation, where they will complete a health questionnaire and answer any other questions you may have. You may be advised you to stop taking certain medications, such as blood thinners, for a few days before your injection.
An Arthrosamid® injection is performed in our surgical theatre, after the procedure you be able to have some refreshments and can leave once our care team discharges you.
Once the anaesthetic wears off, you may have some discomfort in your knee, but this is usually mild and short-lived. Take over-the-counter painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen if you need to.
You may also have some mild to moderate swelling around the injection site. This will resolve gradually over the next few days.
You can walk and perform most normal daily activities immediately after your procedure, but it’s best to avoid strenuous activities or heavy lifting for a few days after your Arthrosamid® injection to allow your knee joint to settle.
We don’t recommend driving for at least 24 hours after your Arthrosamid® injection. Please arrange for someone to collect you from the hospital after your procedure, or we can arrange a taxi if you prefer.
You can return to work as soon as you feel ready.
You will booked in for a follow-up appointment with Mr. Chauhan 6-12 weeks after the procedure.
Arthrosamid® injection is a safe procedure, but as with any type of medical procedure, there is a small risk of complications or side effects.
Mr. Chatenya Chauhan will explain all the possible side effects and complications of Arthrosamid® before your procedure and answer any questions you may have. It’s important that you are fully informed about any possible risks and complications of Arthrosamid® before your procedure as this will allow you to make an informed decision about your treatment.
Possible side effects of Arthrosamid® injection include:
