Located in Shirley Oaks Village on the outskirts of Croydon, our private hospital sees patients from South West London, East Surrey and beyond. People come to use from local areas such as Sutton, Banstead, Coulsdon, Purley and Wallington, as well as Warlingham, Kenley and Chipstead. We also see many patients from further afield. Imaging Team

Shirley Oaks Hospital in Croydon offers a complex variety of imaging techniques to ensure the patients' requirement is at the heart of our service. The imaging department has been privileged to be working in partnership with expert Consultants and well-known and experienced Radiologists with unique sub-specialities. This ranges from General Radiology, to Interventional Radiology under Ultrasound or CT guidance.

The Radiographers are highly experienced and skilled in various Imaging techniques. All of our radiographers have been recognized by the Health Care Professional Care Body (HCPC). They pride in providing the highest Imaging quality and techniques for their patients.

Services provided:

Ultrasound

Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of part of the inside of the body. This scan is performed by a Consultant Radiologist and chaperoned by a Health Care Assistant.

General Radiography

Obtaining images of the body, structures or parts of the body using X-rays. We have upgraded our X-ray machine to digital which is called The Visionary Suite.

  • Orthopaedic Imaging

MRI

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a type of scan that uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body. Our MRI scanner is a GE Voyager which has a wide, 70cm bore (tunnel) for patient comfort. It has dedicated coils and software to optimise image quality.

Our MRI services can offer specialist imaging that includes:

Mammography

Mammography is specialised medical imaging that uses a low-dose X-ray system to see inside the breasts, allowing us to obtain high quality diagnostic images, to then be analysed by two experienced Radiologists. Our Mammography Unit it is equipped with a calming LED mood-light, which changes colours and helps our patients to feel at ease and relax during the examination. We also provide Stereotactic Biopsies and guide wire localisation for patients who have been referred by a Breast Consultant.

CT Scan

CT scans can produce detailed images of many structures inside the body, including the internal organs, blood vessels and bones. The new scanner is a GE Revolution Evo. It has further dose reduction capabilities such as for the eyes and thyroids. Overall doses are reduced due to the latest technology on the scanner. We also offer a number of Cardiac CT scans.

Our CT scanning services can offer specialist imaging that includes:

  • CT Virtual Colonoscopy (CT Pneumocolon): This examination is performed to demonstrate the large intestine and the large bowel (Colon). The procedure is performed by an experienced Consultant Radiologist with the assistance of highly skilled Radiographers.
  • CT Urograms: Examination is performed to examine the kidneys, ureters and bladder also known as the Renal Tract. The interpretation of the images is done by a Consultant Radiologist who has vast experience in Urology Imaging.
  • Staging CT 
  • CT of the Head/Neck 
  • CT Extremities 
  • CT Small Bowel  

We offer a walk-in CT service for patients, subject to passing some clinical questions that will be asked by the Radiology team. Please feel free to contact us for more details about the service.

Please note that the Imaging Department is closed on weekends. Please call the Main Hospital for information related to opening hours on Public Holidays.

A GP or consultant referral is required, to ensure the correct imaging modality is required for the patient. Patients wishing to pay for themselves are most welcome. Insured patients are advised to contact their insurance company before arranging any investigation/treatment.

We accept self-referrals for mammograms provided the woman fulfils accepted criteria e.g. aged over 40.
