Located in Shirley Oaks Village on the outskirts of Croydon, our private hospital sees patients from Southwest London including areas such as Sutton, Coulsdon, Purley, Wallington, and Kenley. We also help treat patients from East Surrey including areas such as Banstead, Warlingham, Chipstead and beyond.
People travel to us to seek the expertise of our experienced consultants and to make the most of our high quality, modern facilities and compassionate team of healthcare professionals.
Our gynaecology consultants can diagnose and treat the following conditions:
The cost of initial consultations with our consultant gynaecologists starts from around £200. The cost of treatment will be different for everyone, as each patient receives a personalised treatment plan based on their individual needs.
Accessing private healthcare is easy, whether you choose to pay directly or use private medical insurance.
If you are paying for yourself, we can usually offer an upfront cost which you can then choose to pay in full or access one of our easy payment options.
If you have insurance, we can arrange direct settlement with your insurance provider, although you should check in advance to see if your treatment is covered. For more information, visit our private medical insurance page.
Our consultants provide a complete service, from pre-surgery to aftercare.
The gynaecological laparoscope is a small telescope that is used to investigate the pelvic area. This can help a consultant determine what condition you may have.
A hysteroscopy is performed to look inside the cervix and uterus to diagnose and treat uterine conditions.
We treat a wide range of conditions, from ovarian cysts to hysterectomies. Some of the most common treatments we perform include:
A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the womb. The procedure can be needed for a variety of reasons. The operation can be performed in three ways: vaginally, abdominally or laparoscopically.
Vaginal wall repair is a procedure used to treat a vaginal prolapse. The vaginal wall can prolapse in two ways, from the front of the vaginal wall (anterior) or from the back wall (posterior).
An anterior colporrhaphy is the repair to the front of the vaginal wall. The procedure is performed to strengthen it and prevent bulging from the bladder into the vaginal wall.
The posterior colporrhaphy is the repair to the rear of the vaginal wall. It is performed to strengthen the wall and prevent bulging from the rectum into the vaginal wall.
An oophorectomy is the removal of either one or both of your ovaries. It’s often referred to as a unilateral oophorectomy (one ovary) or a bilateral oophorectomy (both ovaries).
A sterilisation is intended to be permanent. In some cases, a sterilisation reversal is possible, but the outcome is not guaranteed.
The procedure is performed using keyhole surgery so that it is minimally invasive. The fallopian tubes are reconnected to reverse the sterilisation.
At Shirley Oaks Hospital, we offer a wide range of gynaecological treatments for various conditions. Our full list of gynaecology treatments that we offer include:
During your initial consultation, your consultant will ask for you for details about your medical history, symptoms, and the issues you’ve been experiencing.
They may ask you questions during your appointment, such as:
Depending on your symptoms and suspected condition, you may also have an internal pelvic examination. This is so your consultant can physically investigate any signs for concern.
If your consultant suspects you may have a concern than needs further investigation, further diagnostic scans may be needed. These can include an ultrasound, MRI, CT scans, a hysteroscopy (to look at the lining of the uterus), a colposcopy (to obtain a biopsy from the cervix), or a biopsy (small tissue sample).
If you have been experiencing issues with your pelvic floor and/or incontinence, you may be referred to one of our urologists for a urodynamics test. This test looks at the function of the bladder, measuring urine flow and bladder pressure. Depending on the severity of your symptoms, you will then either be referred to our dedicated physiotherapy team for further guidance about specific pelvic floor exercises, or recommended for surgical intervention by your urologist.
Once your results have been evaluated, your consultant will meet with you again to discuss your diagnosis and walk you through a personalised treatment plan based on your unique needs.
