Can I choose whether I'm seen by a male or female private GP?
The private GP service is run solely by our in house experienced GP, Dr John Tobias.
Can I find out more about my private GP before I book?
Yes. Click here to find out more about Dr Tobias, his training, specialisms, qualifications, and experience. All GPs in the UK must be registered with the GMC. The GMC's register is open to the public, which you can use to find out more.
How quickly can I see my private GP?
A number of appointments are available Monday through Friday, ensuring the possibility of same-day appointments where possible. Often, these appointments can be arranged within an hour or so from booking.
Can I have a video call with a private GP instead?
No. Our private GP service runs strictly on a face-to-face basis. This allows Dr Tobias the best opportunity to properly understand, assess and diagnose, ensuring you get the best result from your appointment.
Can I see the same private GP I saw last time?
Yes. If you're booking directly with us, then you can book with the same GP (Dr Tobias) as many times as you like. Remember that if it's an emergency, then you need to use the NHS 999 emergency service instead.
If I need further treatment, can I choose where I go?
Yes. The choice is entirely yours. Your GP can help by writing a referral or recommendation letter depending on your condition and circumstances and will discuss all the options with you during your visit. Onward referral to any of our specialists at Ross Hall Hospital is free of charge.
Can the private GP service issue prescriptions?
Yes. Our private GP service in Glasgow can issue private prescriptions. You can then visit our pharmacy at Ross Hall Hospital (Crookston Road) to pay for and collect your prescription. Alternatively, there may be other pharmacies local to you that accept private prescriptions.
Are tests included in the cost of my private GP visit?
No. The cost of your private GP appointment is for consultation and professional advice only, although it does include the cost of writing a prescription if deemed necessary, or onward referral to any other specialty/consultant. The cost of fulfilling the prescription is not covered and varies according to the cost of the medication prescribed.
