At Goring Hall Hospital, you will be seen by a bones and joint specialist, also known as an Orthopaedic Surgeon. Your Orthopaedic Specialist will enquire about your symptoms, medical history and perform a physical examination of your shoulder to help diagnose your symptoms. Once a diagnosis has been confirmed, your Orthopaedic Surgeon will work with experts across our hospital, including Radiologists, Physiotherapists and Pain Management Consultants to diagnose your symptoms and deliver a customised treatment plan.  

Your treatment plan could include injection therapy (a course of steroid injections) to reduce swelling and pain in your shoulder or physiotherapy sessions with an experienced Physiotherapist to relieve stiffness and help you move your shoulder with ease. But if these initial treatment options do not improve your symptoms, your Orthopaedic Specialist could suggest surgery.

Shoulder manipulation is a non-invasive treatment where your Orthopaedic Surgeon carefully moves the affected side of your shoulder through a range of movements to relieve constant or reoccurring stiffness. This persistent stiffness could be caused by a condition known as frozen shoulder, which occurs when the lining of your shoulder joint becomes inflamed and swollen. 

Rotator cuff repair surgery starting from £7,900*

Your rotator cuff consists of a group of muscles and tendons that merge to connect to the top of your humerus (upper arm bone). But a shoulder injury or repetitive shoulder movements could lead to rotator cuff tear. If you have a sustained a tear, your Orthopaedic Surgeon can perform surgery to reattach the torn part of your rotator cuff to the top your humerus (upper arm bone).

Shoulder arthroscopy is a keyhole operation that can be used to diagnose or treat any problems inside your shoulder. There are many different procedures that can be performed using a shoulder arthroscopy, including the repair of any torn ligaments or tendons and capsular release surgery to release the tight capsule (lining) that surrounds your joint, allowing you to move your shoulder with ease.  

Shoulder replacement surgery starting from £12,875*

Shoulder replacement surgery can treat damage to your shoulder joint from arthritis. It will involve removing your humeral head (the top of your humerus or upper arm bone) that forms the ball of your shoulder joint and replacing this with a prosthesis. Sometimes, your Orthopaedic Surgeon will also replace the socket of your shoulder joint with a prosthesis.
