Mr Yousaf Akhtar is a Consultant General Surgeon at Beaumont Hospital in Bolton.
He carried out the majority of his clinical training in Ireland and moved to the UK in 2006, where he began working as a consultant in 2012.
After spending two years at Worcester Hospital, he moved to The Royal Bolton Hospital into the role of Substantive Benign Upper GI/General and Emergency Surgeon. He is on specialist register of both the Irish Medical Council and the General Medical Council (UK).
His clinical operative responsibilities at The Royal Bolton Hospital are primarily in the area of elective benign surgery. In addition to his elective work, Mr Akhtar carries out emergency operations on patients with inflammatory bowel disease, which includes Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis resections. As well as this, Mr Akhtar carries out emergency work on bowel cancers, bowel obstruction, gallbladders and any emergency surgical work. As a Consultant General Surgeon at The Royal Bolton Hospital, Mr Akhtar is a core member of the Upper GI and SMDT multi-disciplinary teams.
In addition to his practical workload, Mr Akhtar is a Clinical Appraiser for doctors, a Clinical and Educational Supervisor for trainee doctors, and a trainer for physician associates.
