About Wissam Abou Chedid

Personal Profile

Mr Wissam Abou-Chedid is a Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, internationally recognised for his expertise in robotic-assisted prostate cancer surgery and minimally invasive treatments for benign prostate disease.

He completed his medical degree at the University of Saint Joseph, Beirut, before completing his specialist urology training at Henry Mondor University Hospital, Paris. He further refined his expertise through advanced fellowships in minimally invasive and robotic surgery at Clinique Saint Augustin, Bordeaux, and at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust in Guildford.

Mr Abou-Chedid is among the highest-volume robotic prostate surgeons in the UK, having performed over 750 robotic procedures in the past four years. He is particularly known for his expertise in Retzius-sparing nerve-sparing robotic prostatectomy, a highly specialised technique designed to optimise continence and erectile function, and he is one of the highest-volume surgeons in Europe performing this procedure.

He is widely recognised for driving innovation in prostate cancer care, including pioneering day-case robotic prostatectomy and implementing patient-directed catheter removal protocols, both aimed at enhancing recovery and improving patient experience. He also championed the acquisition and implementation of the Histolog® device, a breakthrough technology enabling real-time intraoperative margin assessment, helping to improve oncological precision during prostate cancer surgery.

In addition to prostate cancer surgery, Mr Abou-Chedid offers a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art treatments for benign prostatic enlargement (BPH), including Aquablation®, Echolaser, and Rezum™, ensuring patients have access to the most advanced and least invasive treatment options available.

Mr Abou-Chedid is also a dedicated educator and surgical trainer. He is a Robotic and Minimally Invasive Urological Surgery Trainer at IRCAD, and regularly hosts international workshops and masterclasses where urologists visit to observe and learn advanced robotic prostatectomy techniques.

He is committed to improving prostate health outcomes at a national level and serves as a Prostate Cancer UK National Clinical Champion, while actively supporting The Prostate Project charity, promoting awareness, early detection, and patient-centred innovation in prostate cancer care
