About William Lightbody

Personal Profile

Bill Lightbody is a Registered Nurse with 35 years’ experience in urology. He trained at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and qualified in 1989. After qualifying he worked in urology wards for 15 years at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary before moving to Hairmyres Hospital in Lanarkshire where he was a Urology Charge Nurse/Ward Manager for 6 years. In 2000 he moved to Outpatients where he became a Specialist Nurse/Unit Manager to develop nurse led urology clinics.

Bill has an interest in all aspects of urology care but more specifically in the treatments of erectile dysfunction for men, especially those with prostate/bladder cancer, or those pre/post urology treatment/surgery.

Bill more recently joined Ross Hall Hospital to work with the urology team to support men experiencing erectile dysfunction. He works with patients who have been diagnosed with prostate/bladder cancer and those pre/post urology treatment/surgery who are experiencing symptoms. Bill runs the erectile dysfunction clinic in Glasgow at Ross Hall Clinic Braehead in Glasgow.

Prostate/bladder cancer and its treatment can be physically and emotionally debilitating. At his clinic Bill offers men the opportunity to discuss treatment options and assessment for treatment, which could include:

  • Oral medications
  • Vacuum constriction devices
  • Intra urethral pellets
  • Intracavernosal injections
  • Penile implants

Bill is passionate that there is hope for patients with erectile dysfunction, especially those post-surgery/treatment.
