Qualified in 1993, Cambridge University. Worked in Cambridge, Leeds, London and Nottingham before gaining a British Heart Foundation Research Fellowship to study for a PhD in Leeds. Specialist training in Cardiology in Leeds (Yorkshire Heart Centre), Huddersfield and Wakefield. Appointed Visiting Professor in Cardiology at University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, Madison, USA 2004-5. Current position: Head of Service for Cardiology at Nottingham City Hospital, and Consultant Cardiologist since 2005. Interests are all aspects of adult cardiology, particularly coronary artery disease (interventional cardiology) and adult congenital heart disease.

Dr Smith specialises in all aspects of adult heart disease, including the investigation and treatment of chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, heart murmurs, collapse and dizziness. Procedures undertaken: Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (angioplasty and stents), Cardiac catheterisation and coronary angiography, Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) closure, Echocardiography, ECGs, Cardiac Event Monitoring.
