About Mr Werner Struss

Personal Profile

Mr Struss is a consultant urological surgeon with a subspecialist focus on prostate care. His interests are prostate cancer screening, advanced prostate cancer diagnostics including utilisation of MRI, transperineal and fusion prostate biopsies as well as minimally invasive focal prostate cancer treatment options like High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) and IRE (NanoKnife).

Mr Struss is also experienced in High Dose Brachytherapy application and administration of peri-rectal spacing agents prior to planned external beam radiotherapy for prostate cancer including Barrigel and SpaceOAR.

In addition, he manages benign prostate enlargement with standard of care surgical as well as novel minimally invasive endoscopic treatment modalities including TURP, Rezum and Aqua-Ablation respectively.His aim is to convey the need for a balanced health care approach that is individualised and most suitable to your needs.

Mr Struss trained at the University of Hamburg Medical School in Germany with placements in Zurich and Guilford, thereafter, completing his Specialist Urological Training in Hamburg in 2014.
He obtained a Medical Doctorate from the University of Berlin, Charite for research on acute vascular toxicity of chemotherapy in testicular cancer patients and a PhD from the University of Portsmouth for translational medicine in common urologic cancers following his uro-oncological research fellowship at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver in 2018.

Mr Struss has several high impact peer-reviewed publications and accolades for his research work to date and has completed book chapters on uro-oncological topics.

Werner is a Fellow of the European Board of Urology and a Fellow of the European Committee on Sexual Medicine. Since 2018 Werner has worked at the University Hospital of Southampton also becoming a Senior Lecturer before taking up his post at the Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust in 2022.

Mr Struss enjoys the management of common urological conditions that affect both men and women including lower urinary tract symptoms, recurrent urinary tract infections in addition to penoscrotal conditions like phimosis, hydroceles and epididymal cysts.
