Mr El Kininy is one of very few OMFS consultants in the region with a strong academic background, in the form of a higher research degree (M.D.) and extensive experience in undergraduate plus post graduate education in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
To that end, he is a member of the Kent Surrey Sussex OMFS Surgical Training Committee and is involved with the Brighton Sussex Medical School with undergraduate level examinations and assessments.
Mr El Kininy’s journey began when he graduated from Dublin Dental University Hospital at Trinity College in 2008, with Honours and an academic Scholarship, and The School of Medicine, Trinity College Dublin in 2013.
Mr El Kininy’s clinical experience derives from the broad exposure he has had with high-quality, high-volume work in all aspects of OMFS, before and during his specialist training years rotating through UHS and Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.
Mr El Kininy’s extensive training culminated in the award of two fellowship examinations - the FRCS OMFS (RCSEd) and the FFD Oral Surgery / Oral Medicine examination (RCSI).
His current NHS role as Consultant based at Worthing & St.Richard’s Hospitals, includes the surgical treatment of skin cancers from basic to complex resections and local + regional flap reconstructions. He is a core member of the joint St.Richard’s and Worthing skin multi-disciplinary team.
His specialist activities include the full spectrum of Orthognathic Surgery for developmental jaw deformities and obstructive sleep apnoea, correcting patients altered bites and facial asymmetries with the aim of establishing a functional bite in addition to harmonising the facial appearance that everyone strives for.
With his experience in this exciting field of OMFS, Mr El Kininy manages severe obstructive sleep apnoea and its associated medical problems with jaw surgery to improve airway dimensions.
In addition to this, Mr El Kininy is an expert in benign salivary gland diseases and their associated surgeries.
He also performs regular local and general anesthaesia lists for complex Oral Surgery including wisdom teeth and impacted teeth extractions, oral cysts.
Mr El Kininy is well versed with implant Dentistry and is one of very select number of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons who provide not only single and full arch implant placements but can also restore the implants with immediate and delayed restorations giving his patients the smiles they deserve all with one expert clinician.
Before undertaking his extensive clinical training, Mr El Kininy undertook an M.D. research degree in Facial nerve anatomy and its 3D imaging and tractography. This higher research Doctorate was awarded in 2019 and is now fully published.
During this time, he became responsible for the undergraduate Head and Neck anatomy curriculum in Trinity College Dublin, in its design, delivery and assessment, with great audited success.
Beyond academia and clinical work, Mr El Kininy has had several leadership and management roles within his NHS Trusts and across the region and was elected trainee representative in the KSS Deanery for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery whilst in specialist training.
Mr El Kininy is also a family man and takes great pride in his children. Outside of work he enjoys basketball, tennis and cycling.
