About Dr Wajid Hussain

Personal Profile

Dr Hussain is an expert General Cardiologist, with a special focus on arrhythmias. He has extensive experience managing a range of arrhythmias, from simple palpitations to complex cases of atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. Dr Hussain is particularly passionate about the management of atrial fibrillation and the role of ablation in treating this condition. 

With over two decades of experience in cardiology, Dr Hussain is a highly trained and skilled Physician. He graduated with honours from Birmingham University in 1993 and completed his training in general cardiology at specialist cardiac units in London. He then went on to undertake research and further training in electrophysiology in London and New York. 

Dr Hussain was appointed in 2006 as a Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust, the largest specialist heart and lung trust in the country. His appointment was specifically to facilitate the expansion of ablation services, particularly in atrial fibrillation. Dr Hussain is also passionate about the use of digital technology to improve clinical care, and he currently serves as the Chief Clinical Information Officer for the Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. In this role, he as as a bridge between IT and Clinicians and is the Clinician Lead for the patient portal, which empowers patients to take charge of their healthcare. He was the first Clinical Director for Digital Health at the Royal College of Physicians working on equipping Physicians for the digital world of the future. 

He is an enthusiastic teacher, widely sharing his knowledge and expertise. He regularly provides specialist training in electophysiology to doctors in the UK but also in developing countries widening access to potentially life changing therapies. 

Dr Hussain's expertise has been recognised nationally and internationally, and he is regularly invited to speak at regional, national, and international meetings on the management of arrhythmias and digital care pathways.
