Personal Profile

Mr Gulati is the lead Consultant Hip Surgeon at Homerton University Hospital where he specialises exclusively in treating patients who suffer from complex hip and knee problems. He combines state of the art, modern, evidence based, proven technologies with an excellent bedside manner to achieve the best possible results for every patient under his care. His particular expertise includes performing hip, knee and partial knee replacement surgery with a special interest in revision hip replacement. He additionally uses a range of modern, biologic joint preservation treatments to treat patients with symptomatic joints not severe enough to require joint replacement. He has also contributed to the development of a young adult hip pathology service.

Background

Mr Gulati completed his entire medical school training at Cambridge University. During this period he was awarded the prestigious ‘Rolleston’ prize culminating in a clinical internship at Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital, USA. Mr Gulati was selected to undertake his speciality Registrar training on the highly competitive Imperial College North West Thames Surgical Rotation. Whilst in training, he took one year out of programme to complete a Higher Masters Research Degree at Imperial College. Here he carried out novel, pioneering biomechanical research using three dimensional state of the art gait analysis technology to evaluate various mechanisms which may contribute to Osteoarthritis progression.

Fellowships

Mr Gulati received both Hip and Knee fellowship training at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital which has an outstanding reputation for Joint Replacement Surgery. This was complemented by an overseas fellowship at the world renowned St.Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.

Research

Mr Gulati has published over 30 peer reviewed publications in a range of international high impact orthopaedic journals including the Bone & Joint Journal, Hip International, Skeletal Radiology, Gait & Posture, Clin Orthopaedic Related Research and the Journal of Trauma. He has presented his work at both national and international forums over 30 times.

Education

Mr Gulati has a strong interest in medical education. His positive feedback for teaching and mentoring has led to the award of an Imperial College Honorary Lectureship.
