Mr Khan is a highly experienced Consultant Plastic Surgeon with an extensive career spanning more than two decades.
He completed his specialist plastic surgery training on the London rotation in the late 1990s, followed by prestigious fellowships in the USA and Australia. In 2002, he became a substantive NHS Consultant, initially working at Imperial College London before being appointed to Bristol in 2006.
Since moving to Bristol, Mr Khan has played a leading role in developing the Major Trauma service, specialising in the treatment of complex extremity injuries. He has been instrumental in advancing plastic surgery education in the UK, serving on the council of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) for 10 years. During this time, he was Chair of Education and a member of the Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC), helping to shape training standards and ensure future generations of surgeons benefit from the latest knowledge, techniques, and technology.
As part of his commitment to education and innovation, Mr Khan has organised and delivered advanced surgical training courses twice a year, sharing his expertise with fellow surgeons.
His analytical approach to surgery led him to complete a higher degree researching scar tissue formation. He has published more than 100 academic articles and contributed to several medical textbooks. A significant achievement in his career has been co-authoring national standards for the management of severe extremity trauma in England and guidance on the treatment of prosthetic joint infections.
Mr Khan regularly attends national and international conferences and is frequently invited to speak as a guest lecturer and faculty member, sharing his knowledge with the wider surgical community.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to plastic surgery and medical education, Mr Khan has received fellowships from professional organisations in the USA, Canada, and Egypt. In 2023, he was awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, a civil honour from the Government of Pakistan, recognising his services and achievements.
