Mr Tushar Agarwal is an accomplished Colorectal and General Surgeon, currently working at The Clementine Churchill Hospital and Syon Clinic. His NHS practice isat St Mark’s Hospital. With over three decades of experience, Mr Agarwal has established himself as a leading expert in his field.
Mr Agarwal began his medical career after graduating from the University of Delhi, India, in 1991. He also pursued his postgraduate training at the University of Delhi. After qualifying in 1996, he did three years of senior residency in one of the busiest teaching hospitals in New Delhi.
Seeking to expand his expertise, Mr Agarwal moved to the United Kingdom, where he completed his Higher Surgical Training through the prestigious North West Thames Surgical Rotation. His dedication to the field was recognised when he was awarded a FRCS (Intercollegiate) with his specialty in Colorectal Surgery.
Mr Agarwal subsequently did a one-year fellowship in Colorectal Surgery from University College Hospital and Guys & St. Thomas’ Hospital. He has done a period of Observership at the Colorectal Unit at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and at the Trauma unit of Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in 2011. He initially joined Chelsea & Westminster Hospital as a Locum Consultant and was subsequently appointed as a substantive consultant at the London North West NHS Trust as a Colorectal and General Surgeon.
Mr Agarwal specialises in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery, a minimally invasive surgery that can reduce both hospital stay and recovery time. He carries out both the Laparoscopic and open operations for Colorectal Cancers. Mr Agarwal also routinely performs Proctology procedures, including surgery for Anal Fistulae, Anal Fissures, Haemorrhoids and Pilonidal Sinus.
His subspecialty interests lie in Colorectal Cancers and Proctology, areas where he has made significant contributions as the MDT (Multidisciplinary Team) lead for Colorectal Cancers at St Marks Hospital. He also carries out general surgical procedures such as Hernia Repairs and most emergency general surgical procedures.
Beyond his surgical practice, Mr Agarwal is a JAG-approved endoscopist, performing diagnostic Upper GI Endoscopies and Colonoscopies with precision and care. His expertise in endoscopy extends to education, where he is a recognised endoscopy trainer, regularly training the next generation of surgeons.
Mr Agarwal is deeply committed to medical education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. As an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, London, he plays a crucial role in mentoring medical students. He also serves as a Training Programme Director for Foundation Year Trainees based at Ealing Hospital, a Consultant Trainer at the London Deanery Skills Lab and a recognised trainer for higher surgical trainees in the London North West Deanery.
Mr Agarwal’s commitment to education extends to his role as an examiner for the PLAB exam, conducted by the General Medical Council for overseas doctors, ensuring that international medical graduates meet the high standards required to practice in the UK. He is also a panel examiner for Imperial College, where he assesses candidates for medical student entrance exams.
Beyond his surgical career, Mr Agarwal is an ECB-qualified cricket umpire. He frequently instructs courses for cricket umpires in Middlesex and has recently taken on the role of Women's Umpires Development Officer for the region.
