Tom is a highly experienced consultant urological surgeon in Northampton, providing expert diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of urological conditions. He works across both NHS and private practice, delivering personalised care for conditions including prostate cancer, bladder disorders, and urinary tract problems.

Education and Medical Training

Tom graduated with a degree in Anatomy from the University of Liverpool in 1996 before completing his medical training at St George’s Hospital Medical School in London. He qualified as a doctor of medicine in 2001.

He went on to complete a two-year surgical training programme at Kingston Hospital and Frimley Park Hospital, building a strong foundation in general surgery before specialising in urology.

Urology Experience and Research

Tom developed a particular interest in urology early in his career. He undertook research at St George’s Medical School, University of London, focusing on metastatic prostate cancer and the apoptotic effects of bisphosphonates.

During his specialist training in the East Midlands Deanery, including two and a half years at the United Hospitals of Leicester, Tom gained extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide variety of urological conditions.

He has published research in internationally recognised urology journals on topics including:

  • Bladder cancer
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

Tom has also presented his work at regional, national, European, and American urology conferences. He contributed a chapter on penile cancer to Blandy’s Urology, a leading international reference book.

Consultant Urologist and Clinical Lead

Tom has been a consultant urologist at Northampton General Hospital since 2016 and became Clinical Lead for Urology in 2019.

In this role, he is committed to improving patient experience and outcomes. His work has included:

  • Developing a successful one-stop urology clinic
  • Introducing a rapid prostate cancer diagnostic pathway

These initiatives help patients receive faster diagnosis and more efficient care.

Tom also works closely with the uro-gynaecology team and has extensive experience in female urology, allowing him to support both male and female patients.

In addition, he offers peno-scrotal surgery and provides diagnosis and treatment for conditions affecting the prostate and bladder, including endoscopic procedures.
