About Thomas Mathew

Personal Profile

Dr Mathew is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Nottingham University Hospital (NUH) and is currently the clinical director for cardiology, cardiac surgery, and respiratory medicine. Prior to that he was Head of Service for Cardiology at NUH.

Dr Mathew has held several regional and national roles including Training Program Director for cardiology at Heath Education East Midlands (2011-2019) and a member of the Speciality Advisory Committee of the Royal College of Physicians (2016-2019). Dr Mathew was the chair of the Education committee and elected council member of the British Society of Echocardiography (2015- 2017).

Dr Mathew was trained in Cardiology at The Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, and gained further experience in Cardiac Imaging from Wales Heart Research Institute and Royal Brompton Hospital, London. He has vast experience in general cardiology and cardiovascular imaging and his interests include assessment of ischaemic heart disease/chest pain, valve assessments and cardiomyopathies.

He is passionate about teaching and has vast experience in lecturing and teaching at national and international meetings and courses. He is the co-author of several national guidelines and has over 50 publications in various peer reviewed journals.
