About Professor Tas Qureshi

Personal Profile

Professor Qureshi is a Consultant General and Gastro-intestinal Surgeon with an established private practice at the Harbour Hospital in Poole. He qualified from King’s College Hospital, London and was appointed to Dorset in 2009.

Current practice

Professor Qureshi has particular expertise in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and uses this technique when he operates on benign conditions such gall stones and all types of hernias, both of which he performs regularly. He is also an expert at performing keyhole surgery for more complex conditions such as cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and endometriosis. He also regularly performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.

Recognition

Professor Qureshi is the lead surgeon for laparoscopic surgery with an internationally recognised expertise. He runs masterclasses for surgeons from other countries and is regularly invited to lecture and operate abroad. Appointed by the Department of Health as a National Trainer in laparoscopic surgery, he was tasked with raising standards amongst other surgeons in the UK. He is also lead surgeon for Robotic Surgery and was one of the first UK surgeons trained in Robotic Colo-rectal Surgery. Professor Qureshi led his unit to be appointed as a European Centre of Excellence in 2016. He is a Robotic Proctor at the European Academy for Robotic Colo-rectal Surgery, teaching and assessing other Robotic Surgeons from Europe and farther afield.

Public acclaim

  • Professor Qureshi was nominated by a number of his patients to receive a ‘Good Morning Britain Health Star Award’.
  • Professor Qureshi has set up a successful Enhanced Recovery Programme, being short-listed for the prestigious National Patient Safety Awards for his achievements.
  • And having been approached by the British Science Museum, video footage of Professor Qureshi operating with the robot is on display in their ‘Medicine and Treatment Gallery’ exhibit, and will be for 25 years!
