Dhanjal MBChB (Hons), PhD, FRCP, FESC is a highly accomplished Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of complex heart rhythm disorders. He provides private care at The Meriden Hospital in Coventry and holds a substantive NHS role at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire.
Professor Dhanjal is also the founding Professor of Cardiology at the University of Warwick, reflecting his leadership in clinical practice, research and education.
He qualified with first-class honours from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 2000, before undertaking specialist training across leading teaching hospitals in Glasgow and Birmingham. His academic career progressed with a British Heart Foundation-funded PhD, awarded in 2007.
He later completed advanced cardiology and electrophysiology training at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, followed by a prestigious two-year advanced fellowship in electrophysiology at Henri Mondor Hospital in Paris, one of Europe’s leading arrhythmia centres. He was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist in 2014.

Clinical Expertise
Professor Dhanjal specialises in the management of cardiac arrhythmias (heart rhythm disorders), with particular expertise in:

Catheter ablation procedures
Atrial fibrillation (AF)
Ventricular tachycardia (VT)
Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
Wolff‑Parkinson‑White syndrome

He is especially recognised for his expertise in complex ablation procedures, including treatment of life‑threatening arrhythmias such as ventricular tachycardia.

Conditions Treated
Professor Dhanjal assesses and treats a wide range of cardiac conditions, including:

Palpitations
Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmias)
Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter
Ventricular tachycardia
Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
Ectopic beats
Syncope (blackouts)
Chest pain and angina
Breathlessness
Heart failure

Treatments & Procedures
Professor Dhanjal offers a full range of advanced cardiac investigations and treatments, including:
Cardiac Rhythm Procedures
Catheter ablation (simple and complex)
Atrial fibrillation ablation (PVI)
SVT and atrial flutter ablation
Ventricular tachycardia ablation
Device Implantation
Pacemaker implantation
Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs)
Cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT)
Implantable loop recorders

Other Cardiac Treatments
External and internal cardioversion
Stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation
Left atrial appendage (LAA) closure

All treatments are delivered using evidence‑based techniques with a focus on safety, effectiveness and long‑term heart rhythm control.

Research & Innovation
Professor Dhanjal is a leading researcher in cardiac electrophysiology, having secured over £1 million in research funding throughout his career.
He leads a research team at Warwick Medical School focused on improving the understanding and treatment of dangerous heart rhythm conditions, particularly atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia.
His team collaborates with internationally recognised centres, including:

Bart’s Heart Centre, London
Henri Mondor Hospital, Paris
University of Washington, Seattle

His recent research has demonstrated the benefits of advanced technologies such as:

High-density HD Grid mapping catheters
Diamond‑tipped ablation catheters

Professor Dhanjal is also an internationally recognised speaker and regularly supports other UK and European centres through procedural training and proctorship.

Teaching & Leadership
As Professor of Cardiology at the University of Warwick, Professor Dhanjal plays a key role in shaping the future of cardiovascular medicine.
He:

Supervises multiple PhD students
Contributes to academic teaching and training
