Mr Talvinder Singh (Vin) is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust. His Trauma and Orthopaedic NHS practice will move to the new Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) in April 2022 once construction completes. Having graduated from the University of the West Indies, Vin completed his Basic Surgical Training at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust. His interest in Upper Limb Surgery grew during his Hand Research Registrar years at University Hospital Birmingham, where he published widely accredited research papers thus gaining him a reputation in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery.

Not long after, he was offered a National Training Number within the Southwest London Region. He completed his Fellowship Exams during his fourth year of training and focused on Upper Limb Surgery in the remaining years. During his training years, he was offered the renowned Medartis Hand Travelling Fellowship to Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, India. He completed his Microsurgical Skills Course during this travelling fellowship under the guidance of world-renowned Dr Rajasabapathy. After completing Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery Training, Vin undertook a 4-month General Trauma Fellowship at Brighton Major Trauma Centre. He then embarked on two prestigious AOA Upper Limb and Microvascular Surgery Fellowships at the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH), Brisbane, Australia for 2 years under great names like Professor Mark Ross and Dr Chris Blenkin. Vin’s thirst for knowledge prompted him to complete the European Diploma in Hand Surgery in 2017. He maintains a surgical logbook with more than 6,000 cases and has completed more than 40 finger replantation and revascularisation.

Vin is the Trauma Lead in his current NHS Trust and collaborates extensively with surgeons from the Plastic Surgery fraternity. He is currently working on his dream to form the collaborative Black Country Upper Limb Service. He currently trains a National Trauma and Orthopaedics Specialist Trainee from the West Midlands Rotation and supervises three Foundation Trainees. Above that, he is a participant in the Regional Specialist Training and continues to lecture Medical students from Aston Medical School and the University of Birmingham.
