About Dr Syed Mehdi

Personal Profile

Dr Mehdi completed his specialist training in Respiratory and General Medicine and attained his Fellowship with Royal College of Physicians at Edinburgh. 

He has post-graduate certification in Medical Education from Manchester University.

Dr Mehdi is currently working as a Clinical Director and Consultant in Respiratory Medicine in Royal Preston Hospital, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and has been in this post since 2016. He is Trust Lead for smoking cessation services and has previously worked as Lung Cancer Lead for the Trust, Directorate Training Lead and Royal College of Physicians Tutor.

He is interested in treating general respiratory patients including lung cancer, asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, pleural effusion, chest infections and pre-operative optimisation of respiratory problems and dealing with post-operative complications. He is involved in treating inpatients and outpatients with respiratory conditions in the NHS and has received good feedback from patients and colleagues.

Dr Mehdi also delivers educational talks to primary care colleagues in educational meetings and organises lung cancer masterclasses for all healthcare professionals. He has published various case reports, presented in respiratory conferences and undertaken quality improvement projects.

  • Interventional pulmonary, including performing complex bronchoscopic procedures, endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) procedures and thoracic ultrasound for pleural effusions
