Personal Profile

Stuart is a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon and Urologist at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Glasgow. He is accredited in both General Paediatric Surgery and Paediatric Urology and has been the senior paediatric urologist within Scotland for the past 10 years.

Stuart is an expert in surgery for congenital abnormalities of the urinary tract, external genitalia, paediatric continence (including nighttime wetting) and urinary tract infection. He also provides surgery for more common penile anomalies, foreskin problems, undescended testis, hernia and hydroceles.

Mr O’Toole qualified in 1988 from Newcastle University and trained in Nottingham, New York State and Glasgow. In 1999 he undertook a fellowship in Paediatric Urology at Great Ormond Street Hospital London before his appointment as a consultant at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children “Yorkhill”.

Stuart is an editor for the Journal of Paediatric Urology and an intercollegiate board examiner for both Paediatric Surgery and Urology. He is a past President of the British Association of Paediatric Urologists and has been elected a Fellow of the European Academy of Paediatric Urology. He has published articles and book chapters on urinary tract infection in children, undescended testis, urinary incontinence, disorders of the external genitalia and laparoscopic renal surgery.

He lectures locally, nationally and internationally on Paediatric Surgery and Urology and runs the annual British Association of Paediatric Urology Course in Queens College Cambridge.

All children aged 3+ can be reviewed as outpatients at Ross Hall Hospital and parents given the correct advice and information they need. Many patients can also be treated at the hospital if required.
