Personal Profile

Dr Steven Shaw is a Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in heart failure and cardiomyopathies.

He is regarded as a global expert in the field of advanced heart failure and is a regular speaker at national and international conferences. Dr Shaw has the responsibility for managing the most complex and serious heart failure cases across the North West region in his NHS work at Wythenshawe Hospital. He is also one of only 2 recognised transplant and ventricular assist device trained cardiologists in North West England.

Dr Shaw is able to manage all common cardiovascular complaints, including the management of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, palpitations, blackouts, chest pain, shortness of breath and the assessment of cardiovascular risk. He is very approachable and particularly excels with his ability to communicate and explain what is happening, thus building good rapport with patients even in difficult or worrying circumstances.

He was raised in the North West of England and studied Medicine at The University of Manchester. His extensive training also includes a PhD from The University of Manchester where he was previously named 'Postgraduate Student of the Year' in recognition of his internationally published research.

Dr Shaw is a dedicated father to his 2 young daughters. He is a keen golfer with a handicap of 5 and a proficient guitarist.
