Personal Profile

Professor Stephen Kaye is a respected Consultant Ophthalmologist with a national and international reputation in the field of corneal and external eye diseases. 

He is the Lead for the Corneal and External Eye Service at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and holds an academic post as Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Liverpool.

With over 30 years of clinical experience, Professor Kaye has pioneered advancements in refractive surgery, having helped establish the Excimer laser refractive service at St Paul’s Eye Unit more than two decades ago. 

His clinical expertise spans Corneal and cataract surgery, YAG laser capsulotomy, refractive cataract surgery using multifocal implants and squint surgery.

He is actively involved in research and education, past Vice President of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, national NHSE lead of cornea transplantation.
