Dr Stella Appiah-Cubi graduated from the University of Science and Technology School of Medical Sciences in Ghana. She has since trained extensively in General Medicine and Haematology in the UK where she is a fellow of both the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Pathology.
Dr Appiah-Cubi received her specialist haematology training on the South Thames London Haematology rotation and worked in centres of excellence including the Royal Marsden Hospital and Guys & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, both in central London.
Prior to taking up her current NHS post at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals in 2014, Dr Appiah-Cubi had been a consultant haematologist at Croydon University Hospital for three years.
As a general haematologist, Dr Appiah Cubi has continued her clinical work in all aspects of haematology including malignant and non-malignant haematology. Malignant haematology relates to the diagnosis and management of patients with blood cancers, such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. She is very experienced in the investigation of new patients with clinical and/or laboratory haematological abnormalities.
Dr Appiah-Cubi has an interest in disorders of bleeding and blood clotting. She is the head of the anticoagulation services and the lead haematologist for thrombosis and haemostasis for Epsom and St Helier Hospitals (with clinical and management responsibilities on both sites).
Dr Stella Appiah-Cubi sees all patients with clinical and laboratory haematological abnormalities. She offers treatment to patients with chronic leukaemia, myeloproliferative disorders, lymphoma, thrombosis (anticoagulation and thrombophilia), bleeding disorders, abnormalities of blood count as well as multiple myeloma. She is directly responsible for the full treatment pathway for patients, from diagnosis to management and works closely with her colleagues in St Martha’s Cancer Centre at Mount Alvernia on the best treatment plans.
Within St Martha’s Cancer Centre, there are nine patient rooms and six pods for chemotherapy. The Centre provides outpatient and day-case services to patients. The service is provided by oncology specialist nurses and consultants and covers diagnostics, intravenous and oral chemotherapy, intravenous chemotherapy administration and monoclonal antibody therapy. Chemotherapy is given for a variety of tumours including breast, urological, prostate, bowel, ovarian, bladder, haematological cancers, upper and lower GI, brain, pancreas, head and neck and melanoma. There is a specialist oncology physiotherapy service and patients also have access to acupuncture and alternative therapies.
Dr Stella Appiah-Cubi's clinical interests include general haematological disorders involving abnormalities of the full blood count, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, anaemia and thrombotic and bleeding disorders alongside:
