About Dr Sohail Q Khan

Personal Profile

Dr Sohail Q. Khan is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. He qualified in medicine from the University of Edinburgh and undertook Cardiology training in Leicester where he was awarded an MD by the University of Leicester for research into cardiac biomarkers and acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). Dr Khan then moved to Manchester to continue his cardiology training before being awarded the prestigious Boston Scientific Fellowship for advanced coronary intervention training at The University of Toronto/Toronto General Hospital, Canada.

Dr Khan is heavily involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate training and holds an Honorary Senior Lecturer post at the University of Birmingham. He has trained numerous cardiologists many of whom are practising around the world in Europe, Asia and Africa.

He runs a large clinical practice specialising in all areas of general and interventional cardiology and specialises in the treatment of high-risk coronary angioplasty patients. He is an expert in using rotablation, and intracoronary imaging (IVUS, OCT) which he uses to optimize stent implantation and achieve the best patient outcomes. He is also an expert in managing chronic total occlusion. He is one of the few UK cardiologists who performs laser atherectomy. He is widely published and is a local Principal Investigator for more than 6 National and International multi-centre clinical trials. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London and Edinburgh, a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and a Fellow of American College of Cardiology. He is regularly invited to lecture and has performed procedures both nationally and internationally as a guest operator. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 children and has recently taken up amateur astronomy.
