About Dr Simone Vella

Personal Profile

Dr Vella graduated from the University of Malta Medical School in 1995.

She started postgraduate training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in Malta, moving to Yorkshire in 1999, then to Glasgow, in 2003, where she completed her training. She was awarded a Certificate of Completion of training in 2007 and was appointed Senior Clinical University Teacher by the University of Glasgow and Honorary Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Princess Royal Maternity/Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Dr Vella then took a career break, to spend time with her young family and moved to Australia for a year. She returned to full time work in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in 2013 and has been working as a consultant at the Princess Royal Maternity/Glasgow Royal Infirmary since.

Although Dr Vella is an obstetrician, her main interest lies in Gynaecology. She has a regular one stop clinic in the NHS which allows her to see patients with gynaecological complaints such as menstrual disorders and postmenopausal bleeding, perform an examination, a transvaginal ultrasound, and if necessary a hysteroscopy as well as initiate treatment all in the one visit.

In the NHS Dr Vella helps run a multidisciplinary tertiary gynaecology dermatology clinic, where she sees women with vulval disorders, which usually present with itching or pain, and which have been unresponsive to treatment. She also offers consultations for women with vulval complaints at Ross Hall Hospital.

Dr Vella is also an experienced accredited colposcopist.
