Mr Siddharth Virani is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in upper limb surgery, with particular expertise in conditions affecting the shoulder and elbow. He graduated in 2012 and completed his orthopaedic training in both Mumbai and the United Kingdom, developing a strong foundation in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries.
Following successful completion of the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in Trauma and Orthopaedics, Mr Virani undertook advanced subspecialty training through a series of highly regarded upper limb fellowships. These included fellowships at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust and Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust in conjunction with the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC), one of the UK's pioneering GIRFT-accredited centres for elective orthopaedic surgery. He subsequently completed his final fellowship at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust in Brighton, a nationally recognised centre renowned for its expertise in complex elbow surgery and elbow replacement procedures.
Through this extensive specialist training, Mr Virani has developed expertise in the management of a broad range of shoulder and elbow conditions, including sports injuries, arthritis, trauma, instability, rotator cuff disorders, frozen shoulder, tendon injuries, and complex joint reconstruction procedures. He is committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care and works closely with patients to develop personalised treatment plans that help them return to their desired level of activity and quality of life.
Mr Virani is currently employed as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, where he is based across Ashford and Canterbury. In addition to his clinical practice, he plays an active role in service development and multidisciplinary collaboration. He leads the Upper Limb Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meeting, bringing together specialists from across sites to discuss complex cases and ensure patients benefit from a coordinated and comprehensive approach to care.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Virani has a strong interest in research and academic development. He has authored and contributed to several publications in peer-reviewed medical journals, with research interests including bone-preserving techniques in shoulder replacement surgery and the role of elbow replacement in the management of trauma. He has also published work focused on quality improvement initiatives, including the development of tools to assess clinical consultations and strategies aimed at improving efficiency and outcomes within trauma services.
Passionate about education and training, Mr Virani has served on national recruitment panels for both core surgical and higher surgical trauma and orthopaedic training programmes. He leads the Journal Club at the William Harvey Hospital and is a GMC-approved Clinical and Educational Supervisor, supporting the development of the next generation of surgeons. His expertise has also led to invitations to serve as faculty on specialist shoulder and elbow training courses, where he teaches and mentors surgeons from across the UK.
Mr Virani has undertaken formal leadership training within the NHS and is a graduate of the highly respected British Orthopaedic Association Future Leaders Programme. His commitment to leadership, education, research, and clinical excellence enables him to provide patients with high-quality, modern orthopaedic care grounded in the latest evidence and best practice.
