About Dr Shabaaz Mughal

Personal Profile

Dr Shabaaz Mughal is a highly experienced Consultant Physician in Sport & Exercise Medicine. He was one of the first consultants in the UK in this medical speciality.
He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine and has 14 years of experience in elite sport, primarily in football but also across a wide range of sports.
 
Currently in private practice, he has most recently led the medical and sport science department at Tottenham Hotspur FC during a very successful period in the clubs recent history, spending 12 years in total there and now has a private practice at The London Independent Hospital.
 
Dr Mughal is a multiple award-winning doctor, gaining international recognition for his role in the on field cardiopulmonary resuscitation of Fabrice Muamba. He has held numerous prestigious positions including Chair of the Premier League Doctors Group and President of the Royal Society of Medicine, Sport and Exercise Medicine section. He has made significant contributions to the development of medical care in the Premier League as a member of the Premier League Medical Working Group and Steering Group on Head Injuries and Concussion.
 
Dr Mughal has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally on a wide range of topics in Sport and Exercise Medicine including role of the club doctor, sudden cardiac arrest in sport, concussion, sportsmen’s groin, musculoskeletal injuries and screening programs in elite sport.
 
He believes in a holistic patient-centred approach to his practice and ensures that all patients receive the standards of care and expertise given to elite athletes. Dr Mughal is highly skilled in the management of all musculoskeletal and sports injuries, providing musculoskeletal ultrasound examination during the consultation for an immediate diagnosis. However seriously your take your sport or physical activity, he believes you should always be able to return to that level if not exceed it and will strive to do his utmost to make this possible.
