After studying medicine at London’s St George’s Hospital, graduating in 2000 with honours in physiology, clinical medicine and neurology, she obtained a first-class degree from Imperial College for her B.Sc. in clinical and biological sciences and was awarded the E Woodford Williams Prize for best scientific paper.
She has advanced training in communication and is passionate about sharing information in an inclusive, empathic, clear and open manner to patients, relatives and carers. Dr Dhoat always aims to enhance patient understanding by providing appropriate information sheets/booklets, website links, and information on patient support groups.
Dr Dhoat has attained numerous awards and prizes during her career in dermatology, including the esteemed Hugh Wallace prize at The Royal Society of Medicine, three years running, and the Bristol Cup Paediatric Prize from the British Association of Dermatologists. Dr Dhoat received an NHS Clinical Excellence Award in 2020, has been awarded Employee of the Quarter four times at Bart’s Health, and obtained four ‘Bart’s hearts’ for outstanding patient care, alongside commendations from colleagues.
She has also been voted best clinical tutor (across all medical disciplines) by students four years running at University College London and is a final-year and MRCP examiner.
She is equally proud of her team’s achievements, including finalists for the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) Dermatology Team of the Year; Quality in Care Dermatology Programme award for pop-up COVID clinics at Bart’s Trust; and finalists for best new clinical service for Paediatric Teledermatology at Bart’s Health.
Dr Dhoat is also a founding member of The New Dermatologist, (ND), a non-profit group set up to promote and protect the specialty of dermatology. The ND offers free training and podcasts as a teaching initiative to improve medical education for doctors who manage skin disease. This series is no.1 for dermatology on Apple and Google with over 25,000 downloads. The ND were also finalists in two categories, in the prestigious Royal College Physicians Excellence in Patient Care awards, 2025.
She is a member learned bodies The British Association of Dermatologists, St John’s Institute of Dermatology, The Royal Society of Medicine, The Royal College of Physicians and The European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology. She regularly attends and presents at national and international conferences.
Dr Dhoat was a recruiter and investigator for the TLA4AE study, examining eczema and dust mite allergy, and has published original findings in esteemed peer-reviewed journals. She has also been involved in research at The Royal Free Hospital on cutaneous manifestations for FOS, a worldwide outcomes database which looks at the natural history of Fabry's disease and to examine the effects of enzyme replacement therapy, with agalsidase alpha. She has also been published in general medical and specialist dermatology literature and is regularly quoted in the press.
