About Sarah Wali

Personal Profile

Dr Sarah Wali is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a distinguished academic and clinical portfolio. Her medical training began at King’s College London, where she earned an MBBS and an intercalated BSc in Physiology with First Class Honours. Her education was further enriched by a Diploma in the History of Medicine and a Master’s degree in Medical Ethics and Law from the Dickson Poon School of Law.

She holds dual qualifications from the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG), reflecting an integrated approach to women’s health that bridges medical, surgical, and ethical care. Her postgraduate training includes advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery, with certification from the European Gynaecological Endoscopy School (GESEA Level 2) and a diploma from the Centre International de Chirurgie Endoscopique (CICE) in France. She completed a competitive two-year fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, where she refined her skills in complex laparoscopic procedures and contributed to the implementation of high-intensity robotic theatre lists.

With over a decade of clinical and academic experience, Dr Wali is a specialist in minimal access surgery, early-stage gynaecological oncology, and advanced labour ward care. She has established expertise in colposcopy, outpatient hysteroscopy, gynaecology and early pregnancy ultrasound, and one-stop clinics for general gynaecology and urgent suspected cancer pathways. Her surgical repertoire includes both open and minimally invasive procedures for benign gynaecology and early-stage malignancy. Proficient in Arabic and French, she brings cultural awareness and sensitivity to her practice, enhancing communication and care for a diverse patient population.

Dr Wali holds a substantive consultant post at Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Foundation Trust, where she serves as Deputy Lead for Colposcopy and supports accountability for the safety and quality of the colposcopy service. Previously, she was Deputy Lead for the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme in Gynaecology at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, where she led the expansion of Day Case Laparoscopic Hysterectomy services—improving surgical efficiency, reducing waiting times, and enhancing patient outcomes. A strong advocate for service development, she has authored clinical guidelines, led audits, and redesigned pathways that have improved multidisciplinary team function and diagnostic efficiency.

Her academic contributions include multiple peer-reviewed publications spanning a broad range of topics across obstetrics and gynaecology. Her clinical work is further supported by a strong medicolegal foundation. Her award-winning Master’s dissertation explored the criminalisation of fatal medical negligence, and she remains actively involved in clinical governance, safety, and accountability.

A passionate educator, Dr Wali has made substantial contributions to surgical training. As London trainee representative for the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) from 2020 to 2024, she coordinated the region’s participation in a national laparoscopic training programme. Her award-winning surgical training video earned first prize in the BSGE Trainee Surgical Video Competition for its innovation during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also updated the RCOG Minimal Access Surgery online learning module, a core part of the national curriculum for obstetrics and gynaecology trainees, accessed by doctors in the UK and abroad. Her work has been showcased in video presentations and international society conferences, including ESGE, SERGS, and AAGL. She continues to deliver teaching at local, regional, and national levels.

Dr Wali combines surgical precision, academic rigour, and ethical leadership. Her commitment to women’s health, innovation in surgical education, and dedication to safe, compassionate care mark her as a respected leader in obstetrics and gynaecology. Her service extends beyond the clinic, with active contributions to education, charitable causes, and environmental volunteering.
