Professor Sanjiv Jari is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Surgeon with a strong commitment to combining clinical excellence, innovation, and education. He is regularly invited to speak nationally and internationally on knee surgery and sports injuries.
What distinguishes his practice is a dual focus on treating all patients from elite athletes to patients with degenerative joint conditions, using the same advanced, evidence-based techniques. His aim is to preserve the natural joint wherever possible, restore function efficiently, and tailor every treatment plan to the individual’s lifestyle and goals.

Professor Jari holds academic roles as an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery at the University of Manchester and Honorary Clinical Professor at the University of Central Lancashire. His academic background also includes a previous professorial appointment within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Bolton, reflecting his particular interest in biomechanics and its application to improving surgical outcomes. In his NHS practice at Salford Royal Hospital, he specialises in lower limb and trauma surgery.
Professor Jari has worked with athletes competing at the highest levels, including roles with the Commonwealth Games (Manchester 2002), the World Police and Fire Games (Indianapolis 2001), and the USA Amateur Boxing Association. He has also served as Orthopaedic Surgeon to the Great British Olympic Wrestling squad and continues to support professional and international athletes across sports such as rugby, football, netball, MMA and basketball. Professor Jari’s experience in elite sport has shaped his approach to patient care at every level. He trained in London and Manchester before undertaking a further specialist Sports Medicine and Knee Fellowship in the United States at a leading sports medicine clinic in Indianapolis.
Professor Jari is a member of the British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma Association and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Professor Jari remains actively involved in research, leading and contributing to studies in lower limb surgery, and he is committed to education through supervising postgraduate doctors, as well as mentoring medical students, rehabilitation students, and international fellows
Professor Jari’s experience gives him a detailed understanding of performance, rehabilitation, and safe return to activity, which he applies to all patients, not only elite athletes.
