Personal profile

Mr Ghosh graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1998. His entire post-graduate training was in Merseyside and Cheshire, finishing with a “mini break” to Cape Town, South Africa where he undertook major head and neck and rhinology surgery. He was appointed as a Substantive Consultant in 2009 in West Yorkshire and moved to Pennine Acute Trust in 2015

As a Consultant, he has developed a specialist practice in Rhinology and Facial Plastics paying particular interest to the structure and functional aspects such as smell and taste, and also how the nose and sinuses are involved in other medical disorders e.g. allergy, asthma, vasculitis, snoring etc. Mr Ghosh works regularly with other specialties such as Respiratory Physicians to deliver a multidisciplinary approach to these conditions.

In sinus surgical terms, Mr Ghosh deals with all common and complex sinus issues including the frontal sinus, not only for sinusitis but also watery eyes, non-cancerous tumours and CSF leak.

With regards to nasal reconstruction and reshaping for functional, trauma and cosmetic reasons, he has performed over 800 septo-rhinoplasty (nose job) cases and receives referrals from colleagues for complex and revision nasal reshaping surgery. He is also happy to assess other surgical conditions such as septal perforations secondary to issues such as previous surgery, immune conditions or drug use i.e cocaine. Recently, he has presented one of the largest series of repair techniques in the UK using a flap technique with >95% success rate of closure and 100% improvement of symptoms.

In terms of facial plastic surgery, in addition to rhinoplasty, he also performs pinnaplasty (pinning ears back), skin lesion excision and reconstruct with flaps and grafts as needed, and scar revision including keloid removal.

Finally in general ENT terms, Mr Ghosh is happy to see and advise on all common ENT conditions i.e sore throats, tonsillitis, ear ache and hearing problems, voice issues, however please note if you require major ear surgery i.e mastoidectomy or major head and neck surgery, including thyroid surgery, he is happy to recommend his colleagues for these conditions.

Aside from the performing of surgery, training and teaching is his other focus and he is the Training Programme Director for ENT in North West England, one of the largest training regions in the UK and continues to be involved in research and clinical improvement. Mr Ghosh also serves as the Medical Advisory Committee Chairperson to The Highfield Hospital.

He also teaches undergraduate and post-graduate students regularly both in ENT and topics as diverse as “Resilience” and “Human Factors”. He received nominations from patients in the “Trust Patient Care Awards 2016” and also from trainees in the “Trainer of the Year Awards 2018.

Mr Ghosh believes it is vital that all options are considered in the consultation, and surgery is reserved only for when you need it. His focus is on shared decision making to pull in all resources on how we can best inform you the patient in your care.
