He has more than 10 years’ experience working as a Consultant. His duties include looking after patients admitted with different respiratory and medical conditions to hospital, providing outpatient care, teaching medical students and doctors in training. He also has regular procedure lists for flexible bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound. He has an honorary contract as Senior Lecturer with UCLan School of Medicine and Lancaster University.
Dr Khalid looks after patients with respiratory conditions including asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, sarcoidosis, interstitial lung disease and lung cancer. In addition he has subspecialty interest in chronic cough. He completed his PhD at the University of Manchester in 2012, studying chronic cough during which he carried out research into the mechanisms of cough and potential treatments for this condition. He has set up a clinic dedicated to treatment of this condition.
Dr Khalid has roles of Research Lead and Clinical Governance Lead for respiratory medicine in East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. He helps to set up and lead on research studies in respiratory medicine, alongside his clinical duties.
He has several peer-reviewed scientific papers on chronic cough and COPD, and has been a co-author for the British Thoracic Society guidelines on flexible bronchoscopy. He has presented his research findings on many national and international scientific meetings.
