Miss Sahana Gupta is a Consultant Gynaecologist & Obstetrician in Northwick Park Hospital. Her special interests are recurrent miscarriage, early pregnancy problems, gynaecological ultrasound including ovarian cancer screening, fibroid care, menopause care and cosmetic vaginal surgery.
She qualified from Calcutta National Medical College in Kolkata, India in the year 1995. She was awarded a Master’s degree in Obstetrics & Gynaecology by the University Of Calcutta in the year 2000.
She was awarded MRCOG in the year 2002 and started training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the United Kingdom in 2004. As part of her training, she worked for 2 years in St George’s Hospital Acute Gynaecology & Early Pregnancy Unit and was extensively trained in gynaecological ultrasound including early pregnancy problems and ovarian cancer screening. During this period, she also worked with Professor Manyonda and honed her operating skills in management of fibroids. She participated in some of his research programs which led to publication of original as well as review articles.
Currently, she leads the recurrent miscarriage service in London Northwest University Healthcare NHS Trust which she developed shortly after joining the Trust. She has a huge passion for managing women with recurrent pregnancy loss and finds it a very rewarding service.
She is certified in menopause care by the British Menopause Society. She firmly believes that women have a right to have access to scientific and evidence based care at a particularly difficult time in their life, and she is passionate about providing that.
Her other special interest is cosmetic vaginal surgery. At present there is a huge debate surrounding cosmetic vaginal surgery and it has been wrongly compared to female genital mutilation by a section of the media as well as some professionals. Along with Professor Manyonda, she has developed a joint service, probably the first of its kind in the UK, where they aim to provide accurate information, choice and above all a very satisfactory cosmetic and aesthetic outcome for all women who wish to have this kind of surgery. They have both been certified by the European College of Aesthetic Medicine.
