Professor Sagar Doshi is a Consultant Cardiologist with a practice focused on interventional cardiology, general cardiology and valvular heart disease. He is director of the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Intervention (TAVI) programme and is a member of the acute coronary intervention service for coronary emergencies. He has performed over 2200 percutaneous coronary interventions (angioplasties and coronary stents) and has undertaken over 1800 TAVI procedures for severe aortic stenosis. He also specialises in Transcatheter Edge-Edge Repair (TEER) which is a novel, minimally invasive treatment for Mitral and Tricuspid regurgitation.
Training and Appointment
Prof Sagar Doshi graduated from the University of Wales in 1990 and completed his specialist training in cardiology in the West Midlands. He was awarded a British Heart Foundation Junior Research Fellowship and undertook his MD Research at the Wales Heart Research Institute. He found undertook an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at the prestigious Mount Sinai Hospital, Manhattan, New York, USA. He has been director of the TAVI programme at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, which he commenced in 2008.
Current Practice
Prof Sagar Doshi is in full time practice in the NHS at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham where he has practiced since 2002 after returning from the United States. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is a major teaching hospital and is the largest NHS Trust in the United Kingdom. He is Prof at University College Birmingham, and an Associate Prof at University of Birmingham Medical School within the Cardiovascular Research Institute. He is a proctor for a number of biomedical companies (rotational atherectomy, intravascular ultrasound) and has proctored TAVI cases in the United Kingdom, Japan and United States of America. He regularly lectures nationally and internationally and is an active researcher.
