Dr Bhandari qualified as a doctor in India and trained in Psychiatry in India and the United Kingdom. After completing his higher psychiatric training at the Royal London Hospital training scheme he has worked a consultant for the last 14 years. Since 2005 he has worked as a consultant psychiatrist in Hertfordshire in Welwyn Garden City and is currently based in Hatfield.
Dr Bhandari has extensive experience as a General Adult Psychiatrist working in Out-patient, In-patient and community settings, consequently developing expertise in diagnosing and treating the whole range of psychiatric disorders including anxiety and panic disorder, OCD, phobias, mood disorders including depression and bi-polar disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia, neuropsychiatric disorders and ADHD.
Dr Bhandari has a keen interest in teaching and training and have been teaching on the University College London MRCPsych training programme for the past 16 years. He has also contributed two chapters to a popular textbook of Psychiatry, currently in its third edition. Dr Bhandari has also been a college examiner for over ten years.
He is actively involved in the activities of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and has in the past been elected to the general adult faculty executive committee, and was the Chair of the Eastern Division of the Royal College of Psychiatrists from 2013 to 2017 running successful Academic Programmes.
Dr Bhandari believes that a therapeutic alliance is key to successful outcomes and is best developed by a collaborative approach. In addition, management needs to be holistic - combining psychological and pharmacological treatments.
