About Dr Sabina Russell

Personal Profile

Dr Russell studied Medicine at University College and Middlesex Hospitals Medical School, London, from 1984 to 1990, qualifying in 1990. She then undertook specialist registrar training in Endocrinology and Diabetes at the internationally renowned Departments of Endocrinology at St Bartholomew's Hospital, The Royal London Hospital, and University College Hospital. Dr Russell completed her PhD in Neuroendocrinology at Imperial College London, where she conducted research into pituitary endocrinology, publishing several first-author papers and contributing to many other publications. She has been actively involved in teaching and training Specialist Registrars in Endocrinology, junior doctors, and medical students.

In 2002, Dr Russell was appointed as Consultant Physician in Endocrinology and Diabetes at Chase Farm and Barnet Hospitals, now part of the Royal Free London NHS Trust. In March 2022, she was appointed Honorary Consultant in Endocrinology at UCLH.

Throughout her career, Dr Russell has developed a number of specialist services across the Trust, including:

  • Thyroid and thyroid cancer services
  • High-risk antenatal endocrine/diabetes services
  • Multidisciplinary adolescent diabetes
  • Diabetes foot services
  • Pituitary endocrinology

She is a core member of the North Central London Thyroid Cancer Network and participates weekly in regional multidisciplinary team meetings, notably the thyroid cancer MDT, the UCLH/Queen Square Pituitary MDT, and the Royal Free London Adrenal MDT.

Dr Russell became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1993 and was elected as a Fellow in 2007.
