He moved to the United Kingdom in 2012 and joined as a Specialist Registrar in Diabetes & Endocrinology at Weston General Hospital in Somerset. He later joined Good Hope Hospital as a Clinical Fellow in Endocrinology before moving to the North West where he joined higher speciality training in Diabetes & Endocrinology, Health Education England.
During his training he rotated through all the tertiary teaching hospitals in the North West. He completed his training in 2019 and joined as a Consultant Endocrinologist at the Lancashire Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, where he practiced from November 2019 to January 2023.
He subsequently joined Salford Care Organisation, Northern Care Alliance, as a Consultant Endocrinologist in February 2023.
He has a keen interest in medical education and holds the post of Honorary Clinical Senior Teaching Fellow with University of Manchester. During his tenure at Lancashire Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, he was appointed as the Royal College Tutor and was in charge of the post-graduate medical education programme for the Trust. As part of this, he is a nominated supervisor for medical students and junior doctors.
He is the current lead for the young person diabetes service, and also runs an insulin pump service.
He is fluent in English, Hindi and Punjabi.
In addition to treating both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, Dr Kochhar has expertise in diabetes technology, including continuous glucose monitoring and insulin pumps.
