Personal Profile

Mr Gurprashad embarked on his medical training at Kings College London, School of Medicine and Dentistry, qualifying in 2001. His subsequent basic and higher surgical training was undertaken on the Cambridge rotation during which he attained Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS). He became a Fellow of the RCS in 2017. Prior to pursuing a career in medicine he completed a BSc in Physiology which was undertaken at King's College London.  In order to enhance his knowledge and understanding of surgical innovations he additionally studied for an MSc in Surgical Technology which was awarded in 2012 by Imperial College London.

Mr Gurprashad completed his specialist training in paediatric surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).  He worked within the highly specialised neonatal and paediatric surgical service.  This training ensured that he is well equipped in assessing and managing complex children ranging from neonates through to teenagers. He currently transitions children from paediatric surgical services to adult services and receives referrals from GOSH to facilitate this.

Providing safe and effective surgical care to children is paramount to Mr Gurprashad, and in his managerial roles he aims to deliver both safe and high-quality care.  He is currently the Clinical Lead for Paediatric General Surgery for the Luton and Dunstable NHS Trust. As part of his drive to expand paediatric surgical services in Luton he has held a position as Honorary Consultant at GOSH to help ensure alignment of future pathways of care. He is a member of the Trust’s Children’s Board and the current chair of the Children’s Steering Group. He holds membership with the British Association of Paediatric Surgery (BAPS).

Mr Gurprashad has been published in peer review journals and is a GMC recognised trainer. He is actively involved in medical education and supervision of junior doctors as both an approved Educational and Clinical Supervisor.

In choosing Mr Gurprashad as your paediatric surgeon, you will have a clinician who understands the unique needs and concerns of young patients and their families. This requires specialised knowledge, expertise and a compassionate approach. He is committed to working closely with parents and clinical colleagues to ensure that every child receives the best possible surgical outcome and a comfortable, supportive experience throughout their care.

Mr Gurprashad manages and treats children with the following conditions:

  • Hernias of inguinal, umbilical and epigastric origin
