Personal profile

Dr Robert Moisey has been a Consultant Specialist since 2007.

He grew up in the City of Bath and studied at King Edward’s School. He chose to study Medicine at Leeds University and graduated with his Medical Degree (MBChB) in 1996. After spending time training as a Junior Doctor at Bradford Royal Infirmary, Dr Moisey undertook further training in Derby, where he passed the Royal College of Physician exams in 2000 and was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physicians. During his time working in the Derby hospitals, he worked with the Diabetes and Endocrinology team. It was during this time that his interest and passion for helping people with diabetes and other hormone conditions became clear. He spent a year working in the speciality of Diabetes and Endocrinology in Hamilton, New Zealand before returning to West Yorkshire in 2002 to complete his specialist training. He worked as a Medical Registrar training in Diabetes and Endocrinology in the hospitals in Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and Huddersfield.

He achieved Specialist Consultant registration in Diabetes and Endocrinology and General Medicine in 2007 and started as a Consultant that year, initially in North Lincolnshire before his current appointment in 2009. He is now a Consultant working at the Calderdale and Huddersfield Hospitals. He was elected as a Fellow to the Royal College of Physicians in 2017.

Dr Moisey is very happy to see patients referred by their GP as well as those patients who wish to discuss their symptoms, concerns or treatment without the need for a GP referral.

He was appointed to the senior position of Clinical Director for Medicine at CHFT in 2011 and continued in this role until 2020. He has been promoted to the role of Clinical Lead for the Development and Reconfiguration of Clinical Services at the hospital.

Dr Moisey’s clinical practice covers testosterone treatment for men, thyroid and parathyroid disease, chronic tiredness along with pituitary and adrenal disorders. He also has an established service for patients with diabetes. He has expertise in the evaluation and management of testosterone deficiency, something that is becoming increasingly recognised and treated. He offers a clinical assessment along with diagnostics tests and will agree a treatment plan with you. He has strong links with Primary Care and can support patients in having tests through their GP.

Dr Moisey has authored a number of studies in peer review journals on managing testosterone replacement therapy, managing type 2 diabetes on insulin, the impact of diabetes and cardiovascular risk following a heart attack, the impact of growth hormone deficiency on cardiac function and the impact of steroid treatment on blood clotting.

His study on testosterone treatment reported that the dose of testosterone each man requires must be individualised. The dose of testosterone will depend on a number of factors including the weight and overall health of the man. Testosterone can be given as regular injections every 8-14 weeks or as a daily gel that is rubbed into the skin. Choosing the right testosterone treatment for each individual is vital to ensure the best results. Regular monitoring of testosterone levels along with monitoring of symptoms is critical in ensuring each man gets the right dose and gets the most benefit from the treatment.

Dr Moisey runs a busy medico-legal practice. He is regularly instructed by solicitors to provide expert reports on the standard of care given to patients or in circumstances where a personal injury has resulted in a hormone imbalance.

He lives with his wife and three children in Halifax and enjoys regular trips to Filey and, when he gets the chance, a few holes of golf at his local course.

He is very happy to undertake telephone or video consultations with patients.
