Mr Metcalf is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Hip and Knee replacements with his sub-speciality interest is in primary hip and revision hip surgery. 

Training and NHS Practice

Mr Metcalf was appointed as a Consultant in Calderdale and Huddersfield in June 2008.

He was born in Nottinghamshire and qualified from Manchester University in 1990. After basic surgical training, a year of anaesthetics and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, he worked for two years in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa in Primary Care, followed by trauma surgery. This was followed by eight months of nursing an old four-wheel drive up and down East and Southern Africa.

His higher orthopaedic training was on the Yorkshire rotation followed by two fellowships in Lower Limb Arthroplasty in Leeds and York.

Private Practice

Mr Metcalf sees both insured and self-funding patients at Huddersfield Private Hospital serving Huddersfield, Halifax and the wider West Yorkshire region, consulting on a range of orthopaedic problems including Hip and knee pain, soft tissue injuries and sporting injuries. 

Specialising in enhanced recovery pathways for knee and hip replacements allows Mr Metcalf's patients to enjoy their recovery from the comfort of their own home with the support of the hospital throughout their recovery period.
