About Mr Robert Boyd

Personal Profile

Mr Boyd has worked as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon since 2019 and has a subspeciality interest in foot and ankle surgery.

His medical training was at Southampton University where he was awarded a BM in 2001. He also completed a BSc (Hons) in Anatomy at Leeds University in 1999. His trauma and orthopaedic training was in the South East, as part of the Kent, Surrey and Sussex rotation; achieving an FRCS (Trauma & Orth) in 2017 and completion of training (CCT) in 2018.

He was awarded an International Travelling Fellowship in 2017 by the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (BOFAS) where he trained with South Africa’s past Orthopaedic President, Adriaan VanZyl, in Cape Town. He returned to spend a year of fellowship training with past BOFAS President Mr Heath Taylor in Bournemouth. Before starting his consultant job in Salisbury, Mr Boyd completed a Complex Trauma and Reconstructive Fellowship at St. George’s hospital in London under Prof Alex Trompeter.

Clinical Interests

During his time at Salisbury, Mr Boyd has been part of the on-call trauma team and has also helped develop the Foot & Ankle service. His training in both foot and ankle surgery as well as complex trauma and lower limb reconstruction has enabled him to work alongside plastic surgical colleagues and develop the Orthoplastic service. This service receives referrals from throughout the Wessex region for patients whom have complex deformities, non-union and bone infection.

Mr Boyd has published scientific papers in a number of medical journals throughout his career and has enjoyed training junior surgeons.
