Training
Dr. Rajak graduated with honours from Cardiff Medical School in 2005. Additionally, he pursued a Masters in Medical Law at Cardiff Law School to expand his expertise.
For his training, he completed specialist training at the University Hospital of Wales, where he gained experience in osteoporosis, biological therapies, connective tissue disease/lupus, soft tissue rheumatism, and ankylosing spondylitis. He later specialised further in musculoskeletal ultrasound and metabolic bone disease at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath. His training also extended to musculoskeletal ultrasound, where he not only became proficient but also trained other doctors in its use over several years.
Practice
Dr Rajak is a consultant rheumatologist working at Shirley Oaks Hospital. He is also the clinical lead for Osteoporosis & Bone Health and Rheumatology Musculoskeletal Ultrasound at Croydon Health Service NHS Trust. Within these roles, he has developed an integrated bone health service in collaboration with various medical and surgical specialities. Additionally, he has established a diagnostic service for musculoskeletal ultrasound and set up a regional network to standardise scanning practices.
Dr. Rajak regularly provides US-guided musculoskeletal injections and co-leads the Early Inflammatory Arthritis service, aiming to diagnose and treat arthritis early to prevent long-term joint damage. He also serves as the Medicines Management Chair and Medicines Safety Group Chair at Croydon Health Services, overseeing the governance of medicines use.
Research
Dr. Rajak has published and given lectures on various aspects of rheumatology at both regional and national conferences, contributing to the advancement of the field. Alongside this, he works as a Medical Examiner, reviewing cases of mortality and writes medico-legal reports based on his training in medical law.
Teaching
His teaching experience is extensive. He has served as the Lead Clinical Tutor for Rheumatology at the University Hospital of Wales and an Honorary Clinical Teacher at Cardiff University, where he was recognised with an award for teaching excellence. Currently, he is the Program Lead for Rheumatology at the University of South Wales, overseeing diploma and master's courses, while also tutoring MSc students and supervising their dissertation development.
Dr. Rajak is a Board member of the British Society of Rheumatology Education Committee and the SCE editor for rheumatology for Study PRN, a principal question bank for specialist trainees. Additionally, he organises and facilitates an annual musculoskeletal ultrasound training day, as well as a postgraduate GP education evening. Dr. Rajak regularly delivers lectures, seminars, and workshops for doctors, allied health professionals, and patients, further solidifying his commitment to education.
Personal life
Dr Rajak has a personal interest in philosophy and politics, and he loves to read literature. He also enjoys cooking world cuisines, travelling and going to the gym.
